This is a wonderful fictional reflection upon the Gospel of John. The characters are real with flaws and their heroic faith. As a Catholic I found this book exceptional in its dealing with sin, forgiveness and reconciliation. The author has done a tremendous amount of research into the times and customs of first century Palestine and the Jews. I especially appreciate the little rivalries between the Judeans and the Galileans. I would strongly recommend this book for any Christian for all the new insights that it brings to life.Product details

I love this series. I know these books are fiction but they really helped me to hold the disciples lives in perspective. Wonderful way to learn a bit about the culture back then as well. Great series!
Another good read. You begin to see John's transformation from inquisitive follower to conscious believer. Ultimately he recognizes Jesus as the Messiah but doesn't grasp Jesus mission. It is compelling the reader to move forward with John till he reckons Him as Savior.
I love to learn about the Jewish culture during the time of Jesus. I have read the trilogy and thoroughly enjoyed all three books. I liked how the actual scripture was interwoven into the conversations. We all know that anything outside of Biblical scripture is just muse on our parts. However, the context of scripture in these books really brought the life of Jesus alive in my mind.
I recommend this book to anyone interested in reading an excellent Biblical fiction through the eyes of John the Apostle. This is the second book in a series of three. It follows John's experiences as he accompanied Jesus in the three years of his ministry. Each person is realistically portrayed and shown as having very real flaws as we all do. The story, teaching and spirit of this series is consistent with Biblical accounts. I've enjoyed this series very much.
I have read the Talmid series and am deeply impressed by the understanding the author has of the times and culture of which she writes. The books are engaging, thought provoking, and life changing. You must read for yourself to appreciate the depth of the material. The stories are captivating and the writing itself is very well done. So very, very worth the time to explore.
The " Immanu'El" series is definitely my favorite series of "Biblical Fiction" books. These six books, including "Talmid Bread" follows the life and times of Jesus, His apostles, John the Baptist, and other Biblical people from the courtship of Joseph and Mary through Jesus birth, ministry, crucifixion, and resurrection. The author has beautifully brought the characters to life so that it is easy to understand not only the circumstances in which they lived and interacted, but the deepest emotions, family dynamics. hopes, fears, and loves of each of them. The events in the novels closely follow the Biblical accounts as well as known historical information. I truly loved this whole series and was sorry when I closed the last book,
