Four staggeringly good novels. Blonde Bait was easily the slickest, most engrossing of the four. The Hollow Man was the least like a detective mystery, but it substituted an odd, richly literary style so different I couldn't help but turn the pages. Model for Murder was good, old-fashioned sleazy pulp full of sex and violence, with an intriguing whodunnit tacked on for added effect. Beauty Can Kill is Phil Marlowe meets The Beat Generation, as a hip detective with a stylish pad and a cutting edge jazz collection tools around in his convertible as he solves a gruesome series of crimes tying the emerging counterculture with organized crime.Product details

Good Purchase
A good read for all the stories.
Four stand alone stories that were very enjoyable. Hard to put down!
Read three of the four; so far, so good. Not Raymond Chandler, but who is?
Four littler known novels, that are fun to read on the bus to work. Not quite Raymond Chandler, but fine.
I'm enjoying these mystery stories from decades old pulp magazines from the 60s mostly.
No masterpieces here, but this Megapack is well worth the low price. I found this to be a good assortment of late 1950's & early 1960's hard boiled fiction, detective and otherwise. However, I had to bail on John Roeburt' s, The Hollow Man. Roeburt's prose is unbelievably overwrought, as if dictated through clenched teeth every minute of the way. Perhaps that might be a good thing in the hands of some writers, but not in this case.
